I've been building specdeviceinfo, a reference database of 80,000+ real Android devices, indexed by their own self-reported OS-level fingerprints rather than the retailer's spec sheet.
Why
Google an Android model number and every result is the same thing: a copy of what the manufacturer printed on the box. That's fine if you want to know the advertised RAM, but useless if you want to know what a real device with that model number actually reports at runtime. Which is what counterfeiters copy from anyway.
For anyone doing device verification, anti-fraud research, or just checking a used phone before buying it, you need the opposite: what does a real Redmi Note 4 running stock ROM actually put in Build.SOC_MODEL? Which sensors show up in getSensorList()? What GPU vendor string does OpenGL return? None of the mainstream spec sites answer that.
What's in it
- 80,000+ device records, each self-reported at the OS level: build fingerprint, sensor inventory, SoC/GPU strings, kernel, API level, ABI, OpenGL renderer
- Searchable by brand, chipset, model, or fingerprint
- Bilingual (English + Simplified Chinese) — a lot of the anti-fraud demand comes from the Chinese secondary phone market
- A REST endpoint for programmatic lookups (api.devcheckai.online)
- 24 long-form articles on decoding Android build fingerprints, spotting SoC fakes, cloud-phone detection
Companion apps
The site is the reference layer for three Android apps I shipped alongside it, each aimed at a different job:
- DevCheck AI — reads ~30 hardware fields and prints a shareable authenticity certificate. For second-hand buyers and procurement staff.
- DeviceInfo Viewer — flattens 15 categories of raw device fields (from emulator/root detection through cell towers, GPU strings, install source) onto one screen. Read-only, for engineers doing privacy audits and anti-fraud work.
- PerfMonitor — floating overlay showing real per-frame FPS from SurfaceFlinger, CPU/GPU/DDR frequency, power, thermals. Exports CSV/XLSX with methodology attached. For game and perf engineers, non-root.
Where it is
Free, no account. Hostinger + Cloudflare on the front, Python crawler + static Astro site on the back. Bootstrapped.
